Obituary

DOREEN HEACOCK,
90, of Clinton Township, formerly of Kingston, died following a lengthy illness Monday, June 3, 2019 in her daughter’s home in Clinton Township. She was born January 23, 1929 in Detroit to Herbert and Edith (Yates) Williams.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mom’s passing, but count it a blessing that her spirit was ushered unto the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our family has been so blessed and honored by your love, prayers, and concerns. We are grateful for each and every one of you.

Born in the dawn of the Great Depression, Doreen came to know the Lord as her savior as a child attending Sunday school. She experienced God’s true power and faithfulness through out her life, especially during life’s trials while in her fifties. Her life long love and devotion, as prayers to the Lord helped lead many, including her children and grandchildren to our Savior, Jesus Christ. We remember many hours of laughter as we sat around the table; putting a puzzle together, discussing life, God’s Word, His goodness and teaching. She had a smile for everyone and would often say, “Isn’t it a beautiful day today?”.

Doreen was a member of Deford Community Church for nearly forty years and served as a Sunday school teacher of all ages, including her beloved senior citizen class. She served as director of Wednesday Children’s Cub Cadets, summer Bible school, church librarian and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1947, she worked as a secretary. Doreen started her family in Mt. Clemens and in Warren and became a mother and homemaker. Later in life, she worked as a care giver at The Lighthouse of Caro as a home health care aide. She also worked with Kingston Elementary in its grandparent program. Doreen was a skilled painter, crocheted quality afghans and completed many quilts. As matriarch of the Yates/Williams family, she encouraged attendance to the family reunion picnics, as she placed high importance on family bonds.

Doreen is survived by her children: Delores (Hank) Gehrke of Clinton Township; Pastor Michael (Linda) Heacock of Lexington, SC; Janet (Rodney) Sommerfield of Kingston; Donna (Mike) Brandibur of Benson, AZ; Gary (Coleen) Heacock of Clinton Township; David (Debbie) Heacock of Charlotte; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; brother, Thomas ( Helen) Williams of Attica; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Williams of St. Clair Shores, Gloria Williams of Sterling Heights, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers: Burt Williams, Jack Williams; sister, Edith Humphrey.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 in Deford Community Church with Pastor David Cooper officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Deford Community Church. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.

Sending thoughts and prayers to all Doreen's family. Growing up in Canada, we looked forward to the Sunday drives, where we would often visit Doreen and the family, and spend a few hours playing & visiting with our cousins. The annual family reunions at Canatara Park were the best, bringing back a flood of wonderful memories! Doreen was close in age to my Mum (Mary Baker), and they had a close relationship from their childhood onward. Doreen was an amazing lady, with much love for her family, and the Lord. She loved and was loved, and will be dearly missed.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Doreen. I can imagine how difficult this time is for you. Please accept my deepest condolences. Something that always brings me great comfort is the promise that we will see our deceased loved ones again. This promise God has recorded in the Bible. One of the places is at John 5:28, 29: "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." Soon you will have the chance to welcome Doreen back in perfect health to a beautiful new paradise earth in which God promises to "swallow up death forever." (Isaiah 25:8; 2 Peter 3:13) Until that wonderful time, may you continue to find great comfort in the "God of all comfort," Jehovah God. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Again, my condolences go out to your family during this very difficult time.
