Obituary

IRENE KRUCHKO
91, of Cass City, died following a lengthy illness Thursday, December 12, 2019 in Northwood Meadows, Cass City. She was born May 2, 1928 in Auxier, KY the seventh of ten children born to George and Elizabeth (Rice) Music. She married Willie James Goodman November 17, 1945 in Auxier, KY. She planted flowers and brought comfort to Medilodge residents as a Visiting Angel. Irene was known for being utterly unselfish and always wore a smile. Although my dear "Aunt Billie" has now departed, she will remain forever alive in my mind. I take solace in knowing that my deep sorrow at this time is far outweighed by a lifetime of wonderful memories and being the very fortunate recipient of her unbounded and unconditional love. Her inner strength was simply amazing, solid as the Rock of Gibraltar. She was a wellspring of love and sage advice, with a gift for always knowing the right thing to do. Beyond myself and my immediate family, I know there must be hundreds, if not thousands of individuals whose lives crossed paths with her and are better for it. She was a remarkable person and I will miss her deeply.

While I spoke from the heart yesterday at my mother-in-law’s memorial, I’m afraid I did not do so very eloquently. Please bear with me while I give it another shot. 35 years ago, when I married her youngest son, the last of her five children to get married, I brought with me two young children. Irene could very well have been skeptical, that would have been understandable. Instead, she welcomed us into the family with open arms, treating Todd & Jill exactly the same as all her biological grandchildren. I will love her forever for that. As my sisters-in-law and I have long said, we lucked out big time when it came to Irene (and I’m sure they would agree, our husbands as well....her 4 wonderful sons!!)

I have always felt like the luckiest daughter-in-law in the world. I’ve known Mom for 45 years, and she was the kindest, most generous, loving, accepting, fun loving person I could ever dream of having for a mother-in-law. I miss her already.
