Obituary

MARY ANN OPANASENKO,
77, of Cass City, died suddenly following a short illness, Thursday, June 6, 2019 in Caro. She was born June 13, 1941 in Cass City to Willard and Helen (Randall) Agar.

May Ann graduated from Cass City High School in 1960. She attended and graduated from Howard’s Beauty Academy as a licensed beautician. She worked as an attendant in the Caro Regional Center, retiring after 27 years. Mary Ann always worked third shift, so she could spend the daytime with her children. She was a dedicated mother, especially to her daughter Cindy. Mary Ann proudly attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. A longtime member of the Red Hat Society, Mary Ann was also a charter member of the Tom Thumb Singers. Mary Ann bowled on many bowling leagues. She played the handbells in church and also with the Thumb Ringers. Mary Ann was actively involved in First Presbyterian Church of Cass City, where she sang in the choir and served as elder and deacon. Mary Ann baked many pies for the church and helped with the church rummage sales. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed seeing them play ball in Comerica Park and on television.

Mary Ann is survived by her children: Lori Simpson of Cass City, Daniel Opanasenko of Cass City, Suzanne (Scott) Rockwell of Caro; grandchildren: Jeffrey (Nicole) Hartsell, Cassie (Tyler) Rygwelski, Brandon (Kaitie) Rockwell, Robby (Amanda) Simpson, Nathan (Alyssa) Simpson, Garrett (Mallory) Rockwell; great grandchildren: Natalie, Gabby, Alyssa, Hunter, Avery Jean, Brantley, Emma, Noah, Ayrrow, Ayzel. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cindy Opanasenko; her sister, Joyce Ann Walpole.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2019 in First Presbyterian Church of Cass City with Rev. Linda Graham officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Jeffrey, You are so right, she will be missed. I remember your younger years, she never took her eyes off of you, she had faith in you, and she was right. There will never be another one like her. She was a special lady.
