Steven R. Auvil, Jr., 49, of Snover died following a short illness Sunday, April 19, 2015 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born June 4, 1965 in Cass City the first of three sons born to Steven R. and Pamela S. (Gee) Auvil, Sr.
Steve graduated from Cass City High School in 1983. He worked for Erla's Food Center in the meat processing department. Steve also worked for LaFave Hydraulics and Metal Fabrication in Cass City as a welder. He worked for area car dealerships as their business manager and had his own carpet cleaning business on the side. Steve was a premier outdoorsman. He had a deep respect for the outdoors. He could identify birds by their call, trees, flowers and bushes. Steve enjoyed hunting with his grandfathers. He enjoyed fly fishing, tying his own flies. Steve could find the best spots for brook trout, salmon, walleye and lake trout. He enjoyed boating whether fishing in his small aluminum boat or in his outboard on the waters of Lake Huron.
Steve was a self-taught musician playing the guitar beautifully. He enjoyed growing and tending his garden and canning and cooking the harvest from the garden. He was a self-taught cook, making berry pies from berries he picked, fried chicken, wild game so tender it would melt in your mouth. You didn't go away from Steve's house hungry. Steve loved the Michigan State Spartans and the Green Bay Packers. He loved feeding the hummingbirds and raising beautiful Asian pheasants. Steve loved spending time with his friends and family especially loved spending time at deer camp near Alpena.
Steve is survived by his parents: Steven (Jane) Auvil of Macungie, PA, Pamela Auvil of Allentown, PA; brothers: Dennis (Brenda Walter) Auvil of Slatington, PA, Nathaniel (Melissa) Auvil of Romansville, PA, Andrew Auvil of Macungie, PA, Bryan Auvil of Macungie, PA; grandmother, Patricia Gee of Tucson, Arizona; nieces and nephews: Samantha, Olivia, Alana, Zachary and Marcus. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Ray and Freda Auvil, Bruce Gee; aunt, Nancy Weippert; cousin, Nathan Weippert. He will be particularly missed by his bosom buddy, Eli, his cat.
Funeral service held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor Todd Gould of Evangelical Free Church, officiating.
