BETTY BLANCHE BERRY

Betty B. Berry, 90, passed peacefully at her home in Cass City on Friday, June 5, 2026. She was born May 30, 1936 in Kansas City, MO. Shortly after her birth she was surrendered by her birth mother and at three months old, Betty was adopted by Elmer and Alma (McCrary) Meeks of Flint.

Betty attended Bentley High School, graduating in 1954, and there she met the love of her life and future husband, Bob Berry. They married in Flint on March 16, 1957. They created a beautiful life together and soon added three children into the mix; son, Robert Berry, Jr., daughters: Brenda Berry and Laura Berry.

Betty worked at Bell Telephone until her youngest was born. A few years later she returned to the workforce when she hired in at the YMCA in Flint for several years where her kids were treated to fun filled summers at the “Y”, enjoying swimming, day camps, and hanging out in the youth center. She later worked for and retired from Consumers Energy.

After retirement, she moved north with Bob to Atlanta, MI and lived there until Bob’s death in 1998. She moved to Cass City where she quickly became involved in her community volunteering as a “flower lady” with the downtown beautification project, as well as joining Friends of the Library at Rawson Memorial Library and as a volunteer at Hills & Dales Hospital in the gift shop for many years. Betty stayed active with theater and casino trips, shopping, visiting friends, quilting, and card making with her daughter & friends in the community. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan!

Betty always made life fun and eventful for her kids. She was extremely involved in their activities including band and choir concerts, fund raisers, musicals, plays, Job’s Daughters and was even a Brownie troop leader. Betty loved traveling, reading, tending to her flowers, baking, crafting; but most of all, she cherished her many friendships. She had a full, rich life, many deep friendships and a family who adored her.

Left to cherish loving memories are her children: Rob (Laura) Berry, Brenda Berry, Laura Berry; granddaughter, Katie (Dan) Thompson; great-granddaughters: Emma and Tessa. Betty is preceded in death by her best fella and husband, Bob; parents and parents in-law; brother, Daryl Meeks; several nieces, nephews, and her special lifelong friend, Billie Sue Brady.

Betty wished to mention some very dear friends from various times in her life: Rose Conrady, Arlene Szarapski, Carol Rutkoski, Kathy Filer, Michelle Erla and her beloved “baby girl”, Pippi. On behalf of the Berry family, we wish to send a most heartfelt thank you to First State Hospice. Their care and kindness was beyond measure.

In keeping with Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service.
