RICHARD E. BROOKS, SR.,
80, of Cass City, died Monday, November 22, 2021 in Covenant Medical Center Harrison Campus, Saginaw. He was born October 22, 1941 in Detroit to Harry David and Melda Grace (McClifton) Brooks. He married Paulette LeBlanc on August 5, 1963 in Detroit. She died June 10, 1995.
Richard worked for the Colorkraft Company of Detroit before moving to California. He was employed by Daniel Industries as a forklift operator and later transferred to their Houston location. Richard and his family moved back to Michigan following his retirement. Throughout his life, he enjoyed collecting cans and pop bottles from the roadside and the occasional dumpster. Richard’s loving heart extended beyond his family to the many pets that he cared for; especially, his cats that he treated like his children. Jigsaw puzzles and creating adult coloring book designs were some of his favorite pastimes. Richard could be found in McDonald’s Restaurant every morning enjoying a Dr. Pepper and good company. He rode his bike all over town throughout the entire year.
Richard is survived by his children: Richard (Pam) Brooks, Jr. of Cass City, Melda (James) Hernden of Elmira, Sharon Brooks of Caro, Michael (Heather Berridge) Brooks of Cass City; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Cindy) Brooks of Clifford; sisters: Loretta (Daryl) Sarles of Kingston, Sharon Sarles of Clifford, Brenda (Rodney) Friday of Clifford, Gale Nichols of Bad Axe, Sandy (Frank) McCartt of Canton, Phyllis Smith of Marlette. He is preceded in death by his wife, Paulette; daughter, Dawn Brooks; brothers: Harry “Bill” Brooks, Lawrence Brooks; sisters: Janet Brooks, Carol Sarles, Kathy Neff, Nellie Measel; his two favorite dogs, Bear Bear and Runt Runt .
Funeral service held 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 29, 2021 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert, Funeral Celebrant officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kranz Funeral Home for the family discretionary fund. Family and friends may share memories, prayers, and stories at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
