JOANN BROWN MARTIN
Susan Joan Martin, 83, of Cass City, died peacefully Friday, May 20, 2016 in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. She was born February 12, 1933 in Jackson to Leslie M. and Blanche L. (Basnaw) Reed. Joann married Arthur Thompson Brown May 31, 1953 in Cass City. He died January 25, 1992. She later married Kenneth James Martin October 14, 1995 in Cass City. He died November 14, 2008.
Joann graduated from Hanover-Horton High School in 1950. She sold her steer at the Jackson County Fair to buy a French horn and later played as a member of the Jackson Symphony. Joann was a marvelous seamstress, taught sewing to 4H groups and was skilled in all types of needlework. She enjoyed reading books and was known for her baking skills. Joann loved the many trips back to the Jackson area to see her siblings. She was always one of the first to arrive and brought the best food. Joann started working as a registered radiological technician in the Jackson area and later in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. She was proud to have achieved 50 years as a registered radiological technician.
Joann is survived by her children: Susan Brown of Edwardsburg, Sara (Christopher) DePoy of Grand Rapids; Bruce (Sharon) Brown of Beaverton, Paul (Rochelle) Brown of Cass City, Barry (Kerry) Brown of Cass City; Kenneth (Roselyn) Martin, Jr. of Cass City; grandchildren: Brandon Brown, Matthew Brown, Andrew DePoy, Adam DePoy, Alexander DePoy, Gabrielle DePoy, Mason Brown, Tyler Brown, Andrew Martin, Emily Martin and Erika Martin; siblings: Phyllis (Walt) Mead, John (Sue Ann) Reed, Tom (Johann) Reed and brother-in-law, Dean Tribby; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandson, Scott Becker; sisters: Donna Tribby, Jeannie Sprague; daughter, Cheri L. Martin.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Cass City, with Rev. Steve Bagnall officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery.
