William D. "Buckshot" Burrows

July 30, 1929 — May 5, 2019

WILLIAM D. “BUCKSHOT” BURROWS,
89, of Gagetown died following a lengthy illness, Sunday, May 5, 2019 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. He was born July 30, 1929 in Detroit to Raymond and Mary (Schwartz) Burrows. He married Nancy Ruth Abbey December 12, 1953 in Gagetown United Methodist Church.

Bill graduated from Gagetown High School in 1948. He learned blacksmithing from his dad and worked with him in his family’s blacksmith shop. Bill was drafted and served in the U.S. Army with the Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued to work as a blacksmith until he hired on with Rice Gas Corp. in Gagetown. The business changed hands and names many times over the years but Bill stayed with them. He travelled all over the United States, demonstrating the gas in cutting, brazing and flame hardening steel. Bill enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Sherwood on the Hill Golf Course and Country Club. He also liked to hunt and fish. Bill once caught a fifty-pound halibut while on a trip to Alaska. He and Nancy, along with their family, had a wonderful trip to Las Vegas in 2003 to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary where they renewed their vows. He loved spending every moment he could with his family and grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Nancy; their children: Tim (Kathe) Burrows of Phoenix, AZ; David (Pat) Burrows of St. Cloud, FL; Kathy Jo (Marshall) Lupp of Essexville; Mary Kay (Brad) Erickson of Mason; grandchildren: Peter (Sue Ristevski) Burrows, Tyler Burrows, Matthew (Christina) Burrows, Zachary (Kristen Fenby) Lupp, Megan (John Loessel) Lupp, Marissa Lupp, Jessica (Chris Henderson) Burrows, Hayden Erickson, Hunter Erickson; great grandchildren: Peter Burrows, Jr., Hudson Burrows, Emmett Burrows, Hadley Burrows, Kai White, Chloe White; sister, Nora Lee Lang of Metamora; many nieces and nephews.
