THEO JEANNE CLELAND
79, of Cass City, died Monday, January 23, 2023. She was a resident of Autumnwood Nursing Home of Deckerville since she suffered a stroke in January of 2022. Theo was born November 26, 1943 in Alma to James A. and Anna (Westerbur) McCartney. She married Jerry Cleland in 1962 and in September of 2022 they celebrated sixty years of marriage.
Theo grew up on a farm in Pine River Township in Gratiot County where her father farmed and worked for New Moon Mobile Home Manufacturers. As a child she was active in the Friend’s Church. She attended Pine River Township School, Alma High School, and Northwood Institute. Following graduation from high school, she worked for Simplified Booking in Lansing. Theo studied at Saginaw Valley State University and graduated with a degree in accounting and music. She was employed as an accountant for Yeo & Yeo, and later became Corporate Treasurer for Thumb Office Supply until her retirement in 2002. Theo was an effectual member of Shabbona Community of Christ Church, Greenleaf Township Historical Society, and with local government. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, basket weaving, music, and spending time with her family.
Theo is survived by her husband, Jerry; children: Dale (Shawn) Cleland of Leavenworth, KS; Katha Chockley of Algonac, Beth (Paul) Weise of Gaylord; foster sisters: Mary, Judy Ann, Cathy; grandchildren: Anna (Jacob) Cleland-Leighton, Laura (Joe) Olson, Emma Cleland-Leighton, Clara Cleland-Leighton, Christopher (Katy) Chockley, Amy (Nick) Holley, Stephany (James) Bell, Amber Weise; great grandchildren: Alexander Belmore, Theodore Chockley.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Elder Karen Bouverette of Community of Christ Church officiating. Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice of Cass City, Greenleaf Township Historical Society or Huron County Baby Pantry.
