Mary Ann Cooper (Vargo)

MARY ANN COOPER
91, of Cass City, died Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in Medilodge of Cass City. She was born June 23, 1930 in Cass City to Robert and Mary (Orban) Vargo. She married Elmer Joseph Root in 1949. He died in 1955. She married Max Edwin Cooper on November 30,1957. He died March 3, 2019.

Mary graduated from Cass City High School in 1949 and attended beauty school in Saginaw. She worked for General Cable and Sherman’s Restaurant in Cass City as a waitress. Mary was a homemaker until her children had grown. In later years, she and Holly owned and operated Crossroad’s Restaurant. Mary also worked as a housekeeper for Tendercare of Cass City, until macular degeneration made it difficult for her to work. Sewing was one of Mary’s talents. She enjoyed reading, particularly Westerns, and later she listened to books on tape.

Mary is survived by her children: Timothy (Jean) Cooper of Greenleaf, WI; Elmer “Joe” (Holly) Cooper of Owendale; Jerry (Renee) Cooper of Unionville; daughter-in-law, Sally (Drew) Guernsey of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren: Jeremy Cooper, Dwana Cooper, Ryan Cooper, Brandy (Neville) Patterson, Brent (An) Cooper, Kelsey Cooper; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Joyce Vargo of Cass City. She was preceded in death by her infant sons: Steven Root, Jeffrey Cooper; son, Daniel Cooper; brothers: Tom Vargo, Robert “Junior” Vargo, Reginald Vargo; sister, Shirley Franciosi.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Deacon David Gillespie officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery.
