DAVID L. SPEIRS

David L. Speirs, 67, of Cass City, died peacefully, Tuesday, July 1, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 29, 1958 to Robert and Norma (McConnell) Speirs. He married Karen Lynn Little, March 23, 1979 at Novesta Church of Christ in Cass City.

Dave graduated from Cass City High School in 1976. He was employed by Walbro for forty-five years and most recently at FNA. A talented mechanical designer, he contributed to over nineteen patents for small engine designs. Dave loved nature and enjoyed deer and turkey hunting (with the “Ethicals” and the “Unethicals”). He spent a lot of time fishing by the Cass River, or on a boat, and canoeing. Another one of his hobbies included bike riding, known for his yearly 100-mile rides. The competitive side of Dave loved fast pitch softball, Thursday night basketball, ping pong, and coaching little league baseball for his son and grandsons’ teams, where he was affectionately known by many as “Papa Dave”.

More than anything, Dave enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their pursuits, whether it was sports, acting or music. He rarely missed a game or event. Dave was fond of music, especially 70’s rock, relaxing in the hot tub, good food, watching action movies, and hosting his annual Clay Day shooting event. He treasured time spent with his family and creating memories.

Dave will be remembered for his character, a definition of hospitality, always welcoming with a smile and a handshake or a hug; always willing to lend a hand (and a tow rope as needed) to friends and strangers. Dave was dedicated to working with excellence and was forever faithful. He was a longtime member of the Novesta Church, serving as a deacon, teacher, sound tech, and all around volunteer.

Following his glioblastoma diagnosis in November 2024, he focused a lot on family and making the most of the time he had left. He maintained attendance and participated in as many activities as possible; even when he didn’t feel great. Dave made sure everyone knew that his heart was in a good place, and he was ready for whatever God had in store for him. He continued to be a shining light for Jesus to those around him, and will live on in our hearts and memories as one who lived out his faith in action.

Dave is survived by his wife, Karen; children: Brad (Kristy) Speirs of Cass City; Jason (Katie) Speirs of DeWitt; Lindsey (Chris) Skiles of Cass City; grandchildren; Emily and Ethan Speirs, John and Anna Skiles; siblings: Ron (Randee) Speirs of Cass City; Jane (John) Luana of Deford; Skip (Ellen) Speirs of Deford; Becky (Mark) Zmierski of Caro; Karen’s parents, Jerry and Phyllis Little; sisters-in-law: Carol (Dave) Sayers, Gail (Martin) Louks; brother-in-law, Jeff (Amy) Little; several special nieces and nephews (and their families). He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Speirs; brother, Ricky Speirs.

Funeral service held 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2025 in Novesta Church of Christ with his son, Brad Speirs officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City at a later date. Memorials may be made to Novesta Church of Christ.
