MARIE CATHERINE DENEEN
Marie Catherine Deneen, 93, of Marlette, formerly of Cass City died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Cass City. She was born January 10, 1923 in Marion to John and Agnes (Colman) Herron. She married Orton Spencer. He died in France during World War II. She later married Russell Alvin Deneen February 7, 1947 in Cass City. He died May 28, 1996.
Marie and Russell owned sulky horses and attended the harness races at many county fairs. They also enjoyed time spent together at Bluegrass festivals. A homemaker, Marie was happiest in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to play Euchre, visit with neighbors and watch cars go by as she sat in her lawn chair in the front yard.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Judy (Donald) Lawson of Marlette; granddaughters: Brenda (Richard) Ahlgren of Marlette, Leisha (Clarence) Nichting of Mt. Pleasant, IA; great grandchildren: Jeramiah (Renee) Nichting of Des Moines, IA; Travis Nichting of Mt. Pleasant, IA. Adam (Kayla) Ahlgren of Imlay City, Alyssa (Eric) Hohmann of Marlette; great great grandson, Adrian Hohmann; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Spencer in 2011.
Funeral service held 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Richard Barriger, Compassus Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice.
