DONALD FRANK KULISH
Donald F. Kulish, 90, of Ubly died unexpectedly Friday, March 22, 2024 in his home. He was born October 25, 1933 in Detroit to Edward and Laura (Grimski) Kulish. He married Shirley M. Rubel on November 8, 1952 in Detroit.
Donald worked for the Detroit Fire Department from 1955 to 1981 as a fire engine operator, Engine 56. After moving to Ubly, he took over the family farm. He was a member of The Ubly Fox Hunters Club, Thumb Chapter of the Michigan Steelheaders and St. John Church of Ubly. Donald’s hobbies included: fishing, deer hunting, antique car restoration, bird watcher, and wintering in Florida. He was an avid reader and loved Western books and television shows.
Donald is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Shirley; daughters: Sherry (Larry) Grifka of Snover; Arlene (Terry Wood) Kipper of Laingsburg; Cindy (David Hannert) Kulish of Shelby Township; grandchildren: Douglas (Chastity) Grifka, Nicole (Douglas) Michalski, Timothy (Jennifer) Grifka, Aaron (Chris) Kipper, Courtney (Darren) Lynch, Zachery (Rachel) Kulish, Paige Kulish (Abram) Camero, Alicia (Matthew) Combs, Charles (Elizabeth Say) Mienko; great grandchildren: Brendan and Tayler Grifka; Madison, Abigail, and Lillian Michalski; Katelyn, Colin, Brayden Grifka; Trevor, Kieran, Anistyn, and Elaine Kipper; Aria Lynch; Oliver and Hudson Kulish; Xavier Camero, Emily and Lincoln Combs; sisters: Elaine Spear, Diane (Ernie) Hawley; daughter-in-law, Carol Kulish; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons: Donald R. Kulish, Edward B. Kulish; grandchildren: Danny Grifka, Emmy Kulish; sister, Phyllis Vargo; brother, Robert Kulish; father-in-law and mother in-law, Ben (Blanch) Rubel; brothers-in-law: Frank Vargo, Walter Spear, Henry Osentoski, Gerald Rubel
Funeral Mass held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in St. John Church, Ubly with Fr. Nate Harburg officiating. Interment in St. John Cemetery, Ubly. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Parish.
