EUNICE CATHERINE KAUFMAN

Eunice Catherine Tuckey Kaufman, 92, of Cass City went to be with her heavenly Father on Thursday, August 20, 2026 in her home. She was born October 27, 1933 in Cass City to Charles Luke and Evelyn (Doerr) Tuckey. She married Donald Mills Kaufman on August 14, 1954 in Cass City. He died June 16, 2017.

Eunice graduated from Cass City High School in 1951 and then attended Central Michigan University for a two-year teaching certificate. It was at CMU where she met Donald, a veteran on the GI Bill. After receiving her certificate, she taught kindergarten classes for Bridgeport Schools. Eunice and Donald lived in CMU housing while he completed his degree and Eunice taught in the Remus Public School. They settled in Cass City for six years, where she taught, before moving to Elkhart, IN for his job. During this time, Eunice attended many night and weekend classes in CMU to earn her Bachelors of Science and Education Degree. She taught first and second grade for twenty-five years in the Edwardsburg Elementary School System. Eunice was a Cub Scout mother, Sunday School teacher, and a member of an investment club. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, reading, completing jigsaw puzzles and sewing. Eunice was an active member of Cass City United Methodist Church, the National Education Association, and Michigan Education Association.

Eunice is survived by her three sons: Douglas (Natalia) Kaufman of Caro, Kurt (Cynthia) Kaufman of San Diego, CA; David (Vipapun) Kaufman of Coeur D Alene, ID: grandchildren: Alan, Marina, Kenny; brothers: Charles Tuckey of Cass City, Roy (Kathleen) Tuckey of Cass City; sisters-in-law: Delores Tuckey of Cass City; Kathlyn Tuckey of Frankenmuth, Barbara Tuckey of Cass City; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers: JD Tuckey, Robert Tuckey, Dr. Donald Tuckey, Bill Tuckey; sister, Dorothy (Carl) Mantey; sister-in-law, Iris Tuckey.

Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2026 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Callow officiating. Interment in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
