VERON ISAAC GINGRICH
Veron I. Gingrich, 90, of Cass City died following a long illness Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Medilodge Nursing Facility, Cass City. He was born April 29, 1925 in Cass City to Isaac and Luella (Fetter) Gingrich. He married Lenora Marion Helwig September 3, 1949 in the Baptist Church Parsonage.
Veron graduated from Cass City High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was injured twice and received the Purple Heart medal and three Bronze Stars. Veron was very proud of his military service. He played the bugle during his service, rendering Taps each evening. Veron was the longest active member of Cass City First Baptist Church being a member for over 70 years. Veron worked for the Cass City School System for 34 years retiring in 1987. He was a valued employee fixing anything that needed attention. He also kept busy fixing things around the house, no chore was too difficult. Veron and Lenora were short term missionaries in 1992 and 1993 in Togo, West Africa. They went camping each year for 59 years. He enjoyed woodworking, creating many beautiful pieces including shelves and quilt racks. Veron was also a talented photographer even taking wedding photos. Following his retirement, Veron volunteered his talents at area church camps, including Gladwin, Brown City and Camp Sparta in Florida offering his maintenance skills wherever needed. He was a good Christian man loved by family and friends.
Veron is survived by his wife, Lenora; daughters: Linda (Gary) Mellendorf of Cass City, Diane (Chuck) Richardson of Stanwood; grandchildren: Wendy (Dave) Wright, Michele (Matt) Spencer, Amy (James) Hayes, Chuck (Andrea) Richardson, Christopher (Mallory) Richardson; great grandchildren: Brady, Emily, Seth, Noah, Eli and Conner. Veron is preceded in death by his great grandson, Gabriel D. Spencer.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016 in Cass City First Baptist Church with Pastor Chuck Richardson of Chippewa Hills Baptist Church, Remus and Pastor David Hill officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, Cass City. Pallbearers for Mr. Gingrich: James Hayes, Matt Spencer, Dave Wright, Chris Richardson, Chuck Richardson, Elwyn Helwig. Military honors provided by U.S. Army and Cass City VFW Post #3644. Memorials may be made to Carolyn Kempton Hospital in Togo, West Africa.
