JANICE LEA GRIMES,
67, of Kingston, died following a lengthy illness Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in her son’s home. She was born February 24, 1954 in Lapeer to Harold Leray and Ida Mae (White) Fifield. She married Ricky Grimes June 22, 1975 in Lapeer. He died in 2016.
Janice attended Lapeer High School. She started her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, eventually earning her license and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. Janice worked for Suncrest or the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility, Hills and Dales General Hospital of Cass City, and with Pioneer Work and Learn as the children’s nurse. She was talented in the art of fabric crafts. Janice crocheted, knitted, and quilted with skill. She was a voracious reader and would read anything that had words, from novels by Nora Roberts to Tom Clancy. She enjoyed the peace of being at home, sitting at the kitchen table with a strong cup of coffee and a good book.
Janice is survived by her children: Tom (Tawnya) Grimes of Lapeer; Marcie (John Rands) Fritz of Prescott; Lowell (Ashley) Grimes of Adrian; grandchildren: Tyler, Zachary, Nathaniel, Evan, Skyler, Lea, Aidan, Mark, Alexandria, Olivia, Masen, Jackson; a great grandson and a great granddaughter on their way; brother, John Fifield of Lapeer. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ricky; daughter, Danielle Esterline; brother, Harold (Peggy) Fifield; sister, Lucille Johnson.
Funeral service held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Pastor Len Wyatt of the Kingston Wesleyan Church officiating.
