Elfrieda Guinther Bartnik

Elfrieda B. Guinther Bartnik, 91, of Cass City, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Satchell’s Christian Retirement Home, Caro, following a short illness. She was born November 9, 1925 at home in Colwood to Otto Christian and Susanne (Schoen) Ewald. She married William Hazen Guinther on her birthday, November 9, 1946 in Colling. He died January 27, 1996. She married Henry Bartnik May 4, 2002 in Cass City.

Elfrieda worked as a nurse’s aid for Cass City Hospital and Stevens Nursing Home until her marriage in 1946. She later worked in the After Market Department of Walbro retiring after 20 years. Elfrieda is a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she served on the Ladies Aid, was a choir member a Sunday School Teacher and was the coffee lady at the annual turkey dinners. She was also a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Elfrieda enjoyed reading romance novels, baking and especially loved tending her flower gardens.

Elfrieda is survived by her husband, Henry Bartnik; children: Gerald (Jacalyn) Guinther of Gagetown, Susann (Ron) Pawloski of Cass City; daughter-in-law, Sandra Guinther of Saginaw; grandchildren: Dan Guinther, Wendell Guinther, Tim Guinther, Shata Jones, Matthew (Wendy) Guinther, Dr. Theresa (Matt Mulders) Guinther; step-grandsons: Paul (Mary) Pawloski, Christopher (Dede) Pawloski, Nathan (Jen) Pawloski, Heather (Jeff) Wilkins, Uric Geer, Lance (Mia) Geer; great grandchildren: Kyrah, Tahir, Xzavior, Hazen, Hailey; great great grandson, Ryan; two great grandchildren due soon; 21 step-great grandchildren; brothers: Lawrence (Vida) Ewald of Caro, Clarence (Dotsie) Ewald of Colling; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Also left to remember Elfrieda, her step-children and their families: Gloria Bartnik of Cass City, Dave Bartnik of Cass City, Chris Lobdell of AL, Jerry Bartnik of Cass City. She is preceded in death by her son, David Guinther.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Rev. Steve Bagnall officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Bartnik: Dan Guinther, Wendell Guinther, Tim Guinther, Chris Pawloski, Matt Guinther, Matt Mulders, Paul Pawloski and Lance Geer.
