BARBARA JEANNE HANBY,
88, of Cass City, died peacefully Monday, November 23, 2020 in Northwood Meadows Assisted Living Medical Care Unit, Cass City. She was born July 31, 1932 in Cass City, the only child born to John and Ida (Vogel) Gordon. She married Donald Ward Hanby December 1, 1956 in Cass City. He died February 1, 2010.
Barb worked for various companies in the community over the years, mainly in a clerical position. She enjoyed cooking and canning, always making sure to follow the directions perfectly. As a teenager, her canned vegetables won numerous 4H awards. Barb’s hobbies included gardening, shopping and spending time with her family. Together, Barb and Don were fond of traveling as long as it didn’t require flying. She loved outings with her church friends from the First Baptist Church of Cass City, especially to attend southern gospel music gatherings.
Barb is survived by her children: Sharon ( Robert “Toby”) Todd of Oak Hill, OH; James (Rita) Hanby of Cass City; Jeff (Michelle) Hanby of Cass City; Lori (Randy) Patera of Cass City; Greg (Kristi) Hanby of Saline; fourteen grandchildren: Shannon (Jeremy Brunson) Todd, Wesley (Amy) Todd, Mary Beth (Aaron) Hofner, Eric (Susan) Hanby, Kurt (Ashleigh) Hanby, Bradley (Sarah) Hanby, Kyle Hanby, Jacob (Charity) Hanby, Bethany (wife of Caleb) Hanby, Rachel Patera, Joel Patera, Kendal Hanby, Ian Hanby, Reese Hanby; fifteen great grandchildren: Gunnar, Annabelle, Savannah, Izabella, Marisa, Alexis, Steyr, Seth, Ezra, Keely, Kellan, Aidan, Ward, Colman, Nevin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; grandson, Caleb Hanby.
Private family funeral service held Monday, November 30, 2020 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor Christian Wright of First Baptist Church of Cass City officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cass City or Rawson Memorial Library. Friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
