LEONA MAE HENDERSON,
98, of Kingston, died in her sleep Wednesday morning, April 10, 2019 in her home. She was born April 29, 1920 on the family farm, Southeast of Clifford, to Edward Delbert and Florence Ellen (Wilson) Albertson. She married Eugene Henderson June 23, 1942 in Detroit. He died July 17, 2000.
Leona graduated with the Marlette High School class of 1938. She worked as a cook in Kingston Elementary School for nineteen years and retired in 1986. During the winter storm of 1976, Leona cooked many meals for the grateful Detroit Edison workers in the area. She was an active member of Kingston United Methodist Church, always helping with meals and luncheons. Leona enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Thumb Thimble Quilting Group. She loved to read; her favorite was the Harry Potter series. Leona tended to her plants and orchids. An avid bird watcher, she threw them seed out her kitchen window.
Leona is survived by her sons: Ed Henderson of Flint; Karey Henderson of Kingston; Lyall (Valerie) Henderson of Clarkston; daughter, Pam Furlong of Caro; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; sisters: Doris Koehler, Martha Zbock, Betty Walker; her brother, Donovan Albertson. Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2019 in Kingston United Methodist Church, Kingston with Pastor Mark Harriman officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery.
