JACK GALLAGHER
Frederick John “Jack” Gallagher, 90, of Cass City, died on Saturday, August 30, 2025 in Country Comfort, Cass City. He was born February 15, 1935 in Cass City to Albert and Hazel (Hegler) Gallagher. He married Lois Wichert on January 28, 1956 in Pigeon.
Jack graduated from Cass City High School in 1953. He attended a six-week farming class at Michigan State University and worked on the Gallagher farm in Cass City. The farm, a dairy and crop business, was purchased by his grandfather, John James Gallagher in the late 1800’s. No one was a stranger to Jack. He later sold the cows and had beef cattle. Jack enjoyed showing Charolais cattle and attended several state fairs where he made many friends. He was employed by the Frutchey Bean Company, the grain elevator in Caro, and retired from Vita Plus in Gagetown. During his time at Vita Plus he loved to buy candy bars for the customer’s children. Following retirement, Jack and Lois bought a home in Lakeland, FL and spent winters there until 2020.
Jack could fix anything. It may have not been in a conventional manner but it would never fall apart. It was “Jackafied”. He was a big fan of the University of Michigan. Jack loved his grandchildren and attended most of their sporting and school events even if they were out of state. He was their biggest cheerleader. Jack loved God and attended Trinity United Methodist Church until it merged and became Cass City United Methodist Church. Until his illness, he was an active member that could be found mowing the large lawn of the church. Jack became ill in January 2024 with dementia and other health problems. When he was no longer able to stay at home, Jack went to live at County Comfort AFC home in Cass City where he received terrific care. The staff were always wonderful to him and became like family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Pam (Morris) Powell; son, John (Hope) Gallagher; grandchildren: Megan (Jason) Barrigar, Mallory (Max) Wilkins, Mishelle (Chad) Storey, Jeremy (Teddi) Gallagher, Valerie Gallagher, Tristen Gallagher, Allison Gallagher, Deric Gallagher; great grandchildren: Gabriel, Alaina and Declan Barrigar; MJ and Mabel Wilkins; Finn, Ames and Maeve Gallagher and Zeke Gallagher. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shelley Gallagher Foy; sister, Maryanne Gallagher Adams.
