John William Rands

John W. Rands, 54, of Prescott, formerly of Cass City died unexpectedly Sunday, May 12, 2024 in his home. He was born August 24, 1969 in St. Clair to John A. and Janice D. (Kuecken) Rands. John married Lisa (Wilcox) Blake in 1988 and even though they divorced, they remained best friends. 

John attended Cass City High School.  He worked in construction for various companies and with Volmer Farms of Akron before he began his career as a carpenter.  John was self-employed and owned John Rands Carpentry.  He enjoyed time outdoors hunting and fishing with his sons, trail riding on his side-by-side and kayaking.  John was fond of camping and sitting around the campfire.  He appreciated good coffee on a quiet morning and watching deer, especially fawns, feeding in his front yard.  John was known for his smoked baked beans on the grill.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his rottweilers, Axel and Rosa. 
 
John is survived by his parents, John and Janice Rands of Cass City; children:  Julie (Daniel) Toler of Bay City, Gerald “Bear” (Brandy Bly) Rands of Capac, David (Rebekkah) Rands of Fairgrove, Courtney Rands of Bay City; seven grandchildren; sisters:  Nancy (Cal) DeGuia of Spring Valley, Ca; Linda, affectionately known to John as “Ralph”, (Adam) Harp of Gagetown; many nieces and nephews. His long time significant other, Marcie Fritz of Prescott.  

Funeral held 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor Jim Fader of Whitecloud Church of God officiating. Memorials may be made to Janice Rands for the discretion of the family. 

    Visitation:   11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Friday, May 17, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City
