EVELYN RUTH KILBURN,
76, of Deford, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Toni and Trish House in Auburn. She was born at home on July 22, 1942 to Roy and Helen (Sanderson) Wedge in Juhl. Evelyn married Murrell Kilburn June 18, 1970 in Holly. He died November 3, 2006.
Evelyn was raised on the family farm with her three older sisters in the Sandusky area. She attended Spring Arbor University for two years and completed her teaching degree at Olivet Nazarene. Teaching was her ministry and she touched the lives of hundreds of children, teaching them Christian values as well as their normal lessons. Evelyn began her teaching career in inner city Pontiac where she met and married Murrell. They returned to the Thumb area where she began teaching at Deford Christian Academy in 1984. Evelyn taught for almost fifty years, even after retirement, until her last days.
Evelyn is survived by her children: Mark Kilburn of Caro; James (Beth) Kilburn of Unionville; Ruth (Todd) Doxey of Caro; Charles Stevens of Caro; Jim (Jen) Kilburn of Klamath Falls, OR; grandchildren: Alexis Kilburn, Nicholas Kilburn, Lydia Kilburn, Kayla Kilburn, Jim Kilburn Jr., Miqail Kilburn, Todd Doxey, Jr., Elizabeth Doxey; several great grandchildren; sisters: Edith (William) Lawrence of Palmetto, FL; Donna (Richard) Carly of Fairview; brother-in-law, Gene Burnside of Palmetto, FL.; many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband; sister, Dolores Burnside.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2019 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor David Cooper of Deford Community Church officiating. Memorials may be made to Deford Christian Academy or Toni and Trish House of Auburn. Interment will take place in Kingston Cemetery.
