WILLIAM FREDRIC KRETZSCHMER
80, of Owendale, died Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at home in the comfort of his family. He was born May 14, 1941 in Cass City to William and Rosella (Powell) Kretzschmer. He married Norma Jean Seibel, July 22, 1961 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Bach.
Bill graduated from Owendale High School in 1959 where he played sports, football was his favorite. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country for four years before returning home to farm. As a farmer, he had a love for the land, he enjoyed thrashing beans in particular, and was committed to providing for his family. In the winter, he worked numerous jobs including being employed as a skilled welder for Defoe's Shipbuilding Company in Bay City. He spent time up north at the family cottage on Black Lake, ice fishing was a favorite past-time along with hunting on the family’s 40-acre property. Bill was committed to serving his community and gave over 50 years to the Owendale Fire Department, including serving as Fire Chief. He also dedicated his time to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Bach as a Trustee, Elder, and on the Finance Committee.
William is survived by his wife, Norma; children: Kellin Kretzschmer of Owendale, Kendra Kretzschmer with life partner Larry Otto of Owendale, Karla Kretzschmer of Farmington Hills; granddaughter, Kristina Joy Kretzschmer of Farmington Hills; sisters: Kathleen (Ron) Hofmeister, Marilyn Kowbel, Linda Garthe, Janice Crockett. He is preceded in death by parents; sister, Maureen Hill; brothers-in-law Charles Hill, Phil Garthe, Donald Kowbel, Richard Crockett.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2021 in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe with Rev. Kenneth Lueke officiating. Internment in Grant Township Cemetery.
