LENA MARGARET MALECK
Lena M. Maleck, 101, of Cass City, died June 23, 2024 in Northwood Meadows Medical Care Unit, Cass City. She was born February 16, 1923 in Cass City to Lewis and Margaret (Ingram) Brooks. She married Joseph Maleck on October 1, 1941 in Bates, Michigan. He died December 27, 1979.
Lena and Joseph moved to Cass City in 1949 and for the past 75 years Lena lived in the same home in the village. In 1984, Lena was a member of the graduating class of the Cass City Adult Education Program. She attended First Presbyterian Church of Cass City for many years and was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. For many years, Lena marched in the Cass City Memorial Day parade representing the Ladies Auxiliary.
In 2014, the Cass City Chronicle interviewed Lena and quoting from that article, “Maleck said she loves living in Cass City, and would not change a thing about it. She said it is a safe and friendly town, and a nice place to live. I’ve been in it so long, I like it just the way it is, she said”. Lena’s love of life allowed her to live to 101.
Lena is survived by three children: Thomas (Ellen) Maleck of Charlevoix, George (Carole) Maleck of Vassar, Joan (Stephen) Pierce of Charleston, S.C.; proud grandmother of six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Lynn (Maleck) Dooley; siblings: Oscar Brooks, Claire Brooks, Opal Kastern, Eva Kadwell, Edna Pelton, Harold Ingram.
