 LOU STARR LAPONSIE

Lou S. LaPonsie, 92, of Cass City, died Sunday, June 8, 2025 in Meadow Lane Assisted Living, Bad Axe. He was born December 12, 1932 at home in Rudyard to Angus and Stella (Forgrave) LaPonsie. He married Carol Marcia Corrigan on May 31, 1957 in Rudyard.

Lou graduated from Rudyard High School and served with the United States Navy for four years. He worked as a superintendent for DPW in L’Anse for three years and was a highway inspector/engineer for eleven years at MDOT. Lou moved to Cass City, and in the 1970’s he served as the Cass City Village Manager for twenty-five years. During his time there, he worked on a team that created two laws. Following his retirement, he did contractual work with local villages in the Thumb Area for several years. Lou was a member of First Baptist Church of Cass City and was involved in numerous church activities. He enjoyed reading, gardening, landscaping, and bird watching. Lou shared his huge gift of hospitality. Lou’s children will always remember the many skills their dad taught them such as a strong work ethic, how to handle life’s challenges, integrity, and the importance of family traditions.

Lou is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Carol; children: Grace (Tracy) Dillon, Hope (Steven) Winterhalter, Daniel (Beth) LaPonsie, Joy (John) Montei, Philip LaPonsie, Aaron (Brandy) LaPonsie; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one on the way; sister-in-law: Margaret LaPonsie; many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Faith LaPonsie; siblings: Lois, Edith, Vern, Russ.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2024 in First Baptist Church of Cass City with Pastor Christian Wright, Pastor David Hill, and Pastor Chuck Carr co-concelebrating. Military honors conducted by Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cass City or Compassus of Cass City.
