MARY LOU THICK

Mary Lou Thick, 80, of Gagetown, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, in Covenant Healthcare Harrison Campus, Saginaw. She was born October 12, 1944, in Caro, to Christian Jacob and Lucille (Weiler) Ehrlich. Mary Lou married Dennis Thick, on March 23, 1963, in Pigeon. They shared fifty-four wonderful years together before his death on October 1, 2017.

Mary Lou attended St. Agatha School and graduated from Owendale-Gagetown High School in 1962. A devoted wife and mother, she spent her early years raising her children before beginning a career with General Cable in the early 1970s. Later, Mary Lou could be found smiling behind the deli counter at Erla’s Food Center, where she enjoyed chatting with neighbors and friends. Faith was an important part of Mary Lou’s life as a lifelong member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. Creative and hardworking, she loved basket weaving and quilting, always finding joy in making something beautiful with her hands. Mary Lou’s flower gardens were her pride and joy, bursting with color every summer. She was an avid traveler, having explored nearly every state in the country, but her favorite journeys were always the ones that brought her back home to spend time with her family. Mary Lou’s greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rarely missed a sporting event, cheering them on from the sidelines with a proud smile. Her gentle spirit, warm hugs, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughters: Deidra (Jon) Zdrojewski of Cass City, Lisa Bradley of Cass City, Dawn Zaleski of Gagetown, Robin (Sylvester) Goniwicha of Caro; grandchildren: Brandon Vargo, Lauren (Greg) Jajo, Erin Zdrojewski, Kristen Bradley, Kelly (Adam) Garza, Kayla Zaleski, Eric Zaleski, Nick Zaleski, Kevin Goniwicha, Matthew Goniwicha; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Jeannine) Ehrlich of Caseville; sister-in-law, Carol Ehrlich of Gagetown; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats, Snoop and Scamp. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, William Ehrlich, Sr.; and son-in-law, Gary Bradley.
