ROBERT DEAN MCPHAIL, SR.
Robert D. McPhail, Sr., 73, of Cass City died Thursday, August 2, 2018, following a lengthy illness in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born August 20, 1944 in Cass City to Archie and Martha (Brown) McPhail. He married Katherine Wright February 21, 1970 in Caro.
Bob was raised in Detroit and came back to Cass City to work for General Cable. He was drafted in the U.S. Army during Vietnam where he was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, Bob went back to work at General Cable, later for Evans Products in Gagetown and finally retiring from Deckerville Metal Systems. He worked alongside his brother Charlie at the Owendale Speedway during the 70’s and 80’s. Bob loved NASCAR racing, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. were his favorite drivers. Bob enjoyed taking long walks with his dog, Tootsie. He always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy; their children: Pam (Richard, Jr.) Brooks of Cass City; William (Debbie) McPhail of Cass City; Sarah (David) Lewis of Peabody, KS; Robert D. McPhail, Jr. of Cass City; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his sister, Grace Stuart of Deford; many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Morris McPhail and Charlie McPhail.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military honors conducted by Cass City VFW Post # 3644 and the U.S. Army. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
