GARY WILLIAM MELLENDORF,
73, of Cass City, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in Ascension Genesys Hospital, Grand Blanc. He was born July 19, 1948 in Owendale to Stanley and Erma (Hartwick) Mellendorf. He married Linda Lee Gingrich on May 23, 1970 in First Baptist Church of Cass City.
Gary graduated from Owendale Gagetown High School in 1967 and went to work for Clare’s Sunoco in Cass City. Later, he worked for Cole Carbide Industries in Cass City as a surface grinder. Gary was a member of First Baptist Church of Cass City. Together, He and Linda enjoyed camping and biking in the Bay City State Park and the Tawas State Park. Gary played many rounds of golf with the church men’s group. He was a pitcher and a catcher for city league and church league fast pitch softball. A hopeful and faithful fan of the Detroit Lions, Gary always said, “This could be the year”. He loved his family and time spent with his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Linda; daughters: Wendy (Dave) Wright of Cass City; Shelly (Matt) Spencer of Cass City; grandchildren: Emily (Christian) Kessinger of Lynchburg, VA; Brady (Alondra) Wright of Saginaw, TX; Seth Spencer of Cass City, Noah Spencer of Cass City; brothers: Wayne Mellendorf of Cass City, Bruce (Bev) Mellendorf of Fairgrove, Clare (Ruth Ann) Mellendorf of Cass City, Joe (Sue) Mellendorf of Caro, Art (Romelle) Mellendorf of Kansas City, MO; Glen Mellendorf of Cass City; sister, Ruth (John) Jaworski of Owendale; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Gabriel Spencer; brother, Dale Mellendorf; sisters: June (Don) Ackerman, Janet (Dan) Hartz; sister-in-law, Helen Mellendorf.
Memorial service held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 31, 2021 in First Baptist Church, Cass City with Pastor Christian Wright officiating.
