WAYNE HALL MELLENDORF
   
   89, of Cass City died peacefully Thursday, June 9, 2022 in Northwood Meadows
   
   Medical Care Unit, Cass City. He was born May 3, 1933 in Owendale to Stanley and Erma (Hartwick)
   
   Mellendorf. He married Helen Nora Churchill on May 31, 1952. She died May 3, 2016.
   
   
   Wayne graduated from Owendale High School in 1951 and joined the United States Navy. During his
   
   twenty years of military service, he served aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge and the U.S.S. Oriskany before
   
   retiring and being released from active duty in August of 1971. He went on to become a truck driver for
   
   Gagetown Oil and Gas and Lee Wood Incorporated in Bay City. Wayne was mechanically gifted and could fix anything and everything. He especially enjoyed being a mechanic. Wayne took great pride in repairing his own cars. He loved sharing this knowledge with his grandchildren as Emily learned how to change the oil in her first car and David was taught how to keep his race car fine-tuned for Owendale Speedway. Wayne loved his family and wanted what was best for them at all times.
   
   
   Wayne is survived by his son, Scott (Mary) Mellendorf of Cass City; daughter-in-law, Beth Mellendorf of
   
   Caro; grandchildren: David (Tosha) Mellendorf of Cass City; Emily (Chris) Butterfield of Caro; great
   
   grandchildren: Ryan, Matt, Brady, Connor, Cashel; brothers: Bruce (Bev) Mellendorf of Fairgrove, Clare
   
   (Ruth Ann) Mellendorf of Cass City, Joe (Sue) Mellendorf of Caro, Art (Romelle) Mellendorf of Kansas City,
   
   MO; Glen Mellendorf of Cass City; sister, Ruth (John) Jaworski of Owendale; sisters-in-law: Betsy Mellendorf,
   
   Linda Mellendorf, Nancy Churchill all of Cass City, Yvonne (Ron) Miller of Elkton, Margaret Springstead of Pigeon, Sue Osborn of Shelby Township; brother-in-law, Bill Ford of Cass City; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Jeff Mellendorf; brothers: Dale Mellendorf, Gary Mellendorf; sisters: June (Don) Ackerman, Janet (Dan) Hartz.
   
   
   Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022 in Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City with Brad
   
   Speirs officiating. Interment in Novesta Township Cemetery. Military honors conducted by the Cass City
   
   V.F.W. Post #3644 and the United States Navy. Memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice of Cass
