Joan Montgomery

Joan L. Montgomery, 73, of Cass City, died peacefully in her home following a long battle with breast cancer Wednesday, April 29, 2015. She was born November 10, 1941 in McDowell County, WV the youngest of ten children born to Dathan and Ada M. (Fitzgerald) Clark. She married Robert George Montgomery March 17, 1962 in First Methodist Church, Oxford.

Joan moved to Michigan from West Virginia after high school to live with her sister and look for work. After marrying Bob they began a family and Joan was a stay at home wife and mother. When the children were older Joan began a job at Mervyn's Department Store in Waterford. In 1992 Joan and Bob moved to Cass City. She worked for Old Wood Drug Store, Ubly Heights Golf Course and Charmont Motel. Joan enjoyed playing golf and was part of a women's league at Rolling Hills Golf Course. She enjoyed visiting the casino, playing casino games on her handheld device or computer and buying scratch off lottery tickets. She also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles. Joan was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family.

Joan is survived by her husband, Robert; children: Kimberly Montgomery of Milford; Steven Montgomery of Mt. Clemens, James Montgomery of Waterford; grandchildren: Kegan Bailey, Blaize Bailey, Crystal Vanderbossche, Jazmine Montgomery; great grandchildren: Blaize, Nadiya, Aeden, Savhanna, Areyania, Elizabeth, James; siblings: Dathan Clark of Lansing, KS, Ramona Nichols of Brushfork, WV, Evelyn Barker of Gladstone, MO, Frances McBride of AL, Dorothy Lilly of Lorain, OH; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers: Joseph Clark, Clarence Clark; sisters: Thelma Lilly and twin sister, Jane Clark.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Jackie Roe of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston. Memorials may be made to Home and Hospice Advantage or American Cancer Society.
