JAMES “ALEX” NICOL
Alex Nicol, 59, of Ypsilanti and formerly of Deford, died unexpectedly, Monday, May 28, 2018 in Hills and Dales General Hospital, Cass City. He was born November 20, 1958 in Bad Axe to James Don and Marguerite June (Griggs) Nicol.
Alex graduated from Kingston High School in 1976. He joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the U.S.S. South Carolina repairing and operating radar and missile systems. Following his military service, Alex worked as an electrician building automotive test and assembly equipment for a number of companies in the Saginaw area most recently for KUKA Assembly and Test of Bridgeport. He loved his work and had a great respect for the men who shared his trade. His service in the Navy and his work as a machine builder took him across the country and around the world. A lifelong voracious reader, he enjoyed books about history and politics and enjoyed sharing those ideas with others. Most of all Alex was a man dedicated to and loved by his family. His mother, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews will dearly miss him.
Alex is survived by his mother, June Nicol of Deford; his siblings: Christine (Charles) Cummings of Deford: Charles (Cheryl) Nicol of Deford: Brenda Blackwell of Deford: brother-in-law Kim Raymond of Deford; Carl (Carol) Nicol of Cass City; David (Dominique) Nicol of Cass City; Tracy Nicol of Deford; and Mark (Jessica) Nicol of Rochester; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Don Nicol; and sister, Nancy Raymond.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Chaplain Gary Eachen officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
