RUTH MARIE O'CONNOR,
95, of Port Austin, died following a short illness Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Bolton Brook Manor, Metamora. She was born June 18, 1920 in Gladwin County, MI to Samuel H. and Mary A. (Tesch) Kirby. She married Herbert Wagner April 7, 1937 in Owendale. She married Thomas I. O'Connor May 5, 1968 in Tawas. He died April 13, 2005.
Ruth worked at the Caro State Hospital as a Trainer for over 20 years retiring in 1971. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, crocheting and working word search puzzles. Ruth was a talented quilter and made many quilt tops for family members. She was a member of the Elkland Township quilting group years ago. Ruth loved to read especially romance novels, historical fiction and Michigan history. In years past she enjoyed fishing. Ruth enjoyed berry picking and morel mushroom hunting.
Ruth is survived by her children: Beverly (Lester Jr.) Auten of Cass City, Aileen (Daryl) Wismer of Saranac, Dorothy Green of Rochester Hills, Jill (Bill) Haps of Grand Rapids, Vicki DeHaan of Georgetown, SC, Mary (Dale) Parsons of North Branch; daughter-in-law, Alice Wagner of Roseville; 20 grandchildren; many great grandchildren. She was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by sons: Kurt Wagner, John Wagner; brothers: Clayton Kirby, Vernon Kirby; sister, Aileen Snider; sons-in-law: Gary DeHaan, Leo Bueche.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Dale Parsons officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. O'Connor will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Bolton Brook Manor, 4554 Thomas Road, Metamora, MI 48455 or American Cancer Society.
