CHARLES BRUCE OSGERBY
71, of Holland, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021, after an extended battle with cancer in Freedom Village of Holland. He was born October 24, 1949 to Clare and Mary Alice (Gibbs) Osgerby in Caro, MI. He married Lynn Diane Atwell on July 5, 1974 in First Presbyterian Church of Cass City.
In his youth, Charles attended Caro schools and was very active in sports including: baseball, football, basketball, and skiing, before graduating in 1967. He attended Michigan State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Charles served as a police officer with the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department and the East Lansing Police Department. Following his time spent with the force, he relocated to West Michigan. Charles continued working and owned various businesses throughout the years, the last being Driver Testing Services in Grand Rapids. Charles was an avid reader particularly of anything nonfiction and history related. He loved old cars, Spartan sports, and researching genealogy. Together, Charles and Lynn enjoyed searching and shopping for antiques. He collected license plates and had them from every state and even the Canadian provinces.
Charles is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynn; son, Mark Osgerby of Grand Rapids; daughter, Erin (Jason) Filipiak of Zeeland; grandchildren: Cara Filipiak, Brooke Filipiak, Natalie Filipiak; three sisters: Judy Lucas of Perrysburg, OH; Joann (Jean) Geybels of Belgium; Janet Bassford of Fort Mill, SC.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert, Funeral Service Celebrant officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Family and friends may share memories, prayers, and photos with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
