 RUTH ANN SPENCER

Ruth A. Spencer, 89 of Bad Axe died Thursday, April 9, 2026 in Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. She was born February 1, 1937 in Mayville to Orville and Bertha (Ranetla) Jaynes. She married Frank Edward Spencer on June 12, 1954. He died November 23, 2020.

Ruth attended Caro schools and graduated in 1935. She worked for the State of Michigan as a case worker for the Department of Social Services for nineteen years and retired in 1997. Ruth served as treasurer of Novesta Township for four years and Gilford Township Clerk for twelve years. She was a member of the Gilford Fairgrove United Methodist Church. Ruth enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, cooking, and baking especially cookies and pies. For over fifty years her friends: Janet Laszlo, Marilyn Lester, Madilyn Skaggs, and Marilyn Carpenter would get together for each other’s birthdays. She loved to sing and was a member of the Tom Thumb Singers for many years.

Ruth is survived by her children: Cathy Czekai of Bad Axe, James Spencer of Sterling, Mike Spencer of Reese; grandchildren: Brian King, Patrick (Melissa) King, Adam Czekai, Renee Czekai, Corey Spencer, Keven (Jennifer) Spencer, Jennifer Porter, Channing Spencer, James (Kim) Spencer, Jason (Shelby) Wright, Shanna (Damion) Johnson, Ashlee (Norman) Pierce, Victoria (Rob) VanAucken; eighteen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Linda Watson

Visitation held 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City. Interment in Gilford Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.
