 SANDRA SUE FINKBEINER

Sandra S. Finkbeiner, 80, of Caro, passed from this Earth on Friday, February 27, 2026 in her home. She was born September 15, 1945 to Sven Olaf and Helen Roselee (Powell) Blomberg.

Sandra worked for Twist Drill, then at Truck & Coach which led to her employment with General Motors Lake Orion Plant where she worked for thirty years before retiring. It was during her time at General Motors that she met Larry Finkbeiner. Sandra and Larry were married on July 9, 1977. In 1981, they built a beautiful log cabin where they would later enjoy retirement.

Sandra loved plants and flowers. A love cultivated from growing up working in the greenhouse that her parents started in Auburn Heights. Her second love was crocheting. Sandra made afghans, doilies, even flowers. She could make just about anything she put her mind to with a crochet hook and yarn. Sandra enjoyed drawing, painting, making lamps and suncatchers with stained glass, and many other things. She even dabbled a little in etching, showing that there wasn’t much she couldn’t do with her two hands. The two things her family will remember her for the most was the Swedish meatballs she would make for all of the family gatherings, as well as her co-workers at GM; and using Grandpa Hendrick’s recipe, she made caramel for all of her family to enjoy at Christmas. Sandra spent countless hours in the kitchen creating the delicious, Christmas time, treats for her family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Corinna (Marvin) Baumgarten of OK; stepdaughters: Alice (Dave) DeLeary of Vassar, Cathy (Dan) McConnaughey of Kingston; grandchildren: Candice, Teila, Shawn, Amanda, Gordon, Sandra, Kari, Michelle, Nicole; a plethora of great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; brothers: Sam, Sid, Steve, and Sherman Blomberg; and a plethora of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; daughter, Darla Jean Phelps; brothers: Sven and Stan Blomberg; sisters: Shirley Clark, Signe Dean.

A celebration of life will be held at Sandra’s home in Caro on Saturday, May 23, 2026 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Interment in be at Ellington Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the Wounded Warriors Project.
