SANDRA LOUISE YAX
Sandra L. Yax, 76, of Cass City died Monday, October 5, 2026 in Medilodge of Cass City. She was born October 15, 1949 in Ypsilanti, one of seven children born to Wilford and Marjorie (Helkaa) Smith. She married Donald Frank Yax on July 2, 1983 in Deford Community Church.
Sandra was employed for many years as a healthcare aid in Tendercare Nursing Home of Cass City. Later, she was employed by McDonald’s Restaurant, also in Cass City. Sandra was skilled in the art of embroidery, crochet, and needlepoint. Sandra had a few cats over the years that she cared very deeply for. Her family joking referred to her as the “Official Cat Lady”. She was a good cook; her best dishes were lasagna and chili. Sandra was strong in her faith and attended Deford Community Church. She adored her grandchildren and looked forward to attending their school and sport events. Sandra deeply loved her entire family, especially her grandchildren; but also all of her cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Don; son, Stephen (Trista) Yax of Reese; daughter, Sarah (Joe) Terrell of Detroit; grandchildren: Deake Yax, Dameo Jeske, Laine Yax, Jadreon Terrell, Lexus Terrell; great grandson, Maverick; brothers: Thomas (Diane) Smith of Owendale, Dale (Luise) Smith of Cass City; sister, Shirley (Lee) Soldan of Cass City; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis Smith; sisters: Sharon Soldan, Valdora Middaugh-Russell.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026 in Deford Community Church with Pastor David Cooper officiating. Memorials may be made to Don Yax for the family discretionary fund.
