Karen Spencer

September 21, 1952 — January 22, 2015

Karen D. Spencer, 62, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 22, 2015 in her home. She was born September 21, 1952 in Caro the fourth child of five born to Glen and Betty (Force) Stewart. She married Kenneth Daniel Spencer October 26, 1980 in Caro Church of Christ.

Karen graduated from Akron Fairgrove High School in 1970. She attended Michigan Christian College. Karen worked for Walbro Manufacturing where she met Ken and began their life together. She worked as a Census Taker and as a clerk for Cass City Shell gas station and party store. Karen was a school bus driver for Cass City Community Schools for many years. Most recently Karen worked as an Election Board Official in Tuscola County. The job that was her greatest joy was babysitting her grandchildren. Karen was a member of Caro Church of Christ for many years, the Vassar Red Hat Society and the Rawson Memorial Library Ravenous Readers Book Club. Last year alone she read over 35 books. When the girls were younger Karen served as their Girl Scout Troop Leader. Karen enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She made her own wedding dress and many outfits for her children. She also enjoyed working jigsaw and suduko puzzles. Karen, Ken and their family enjoyed traveling to many places across the United States and trips to Germany to visit Kari. She was a good homemaker and great cook making many favorite recipes from scratch.

Karen is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children: William (Janel) Spencer of Caro, Tiffany (Jeffrey) Stephens of Caro; Kenneth "Kenny" (Jennifer) Spencer of Cass City, Kari (Justin) Dyke of Germany; grandchildren: Alexa, Kaleb, Bryce, Seth, Madalynn, Maggie and the seventh due soon; sister, Sharrie Spencer of Toledo, OH; mother-in-law, Elsie Spencer of Springfield, MO; sisters-in-law: Rosemary Spencer of Springfield, MO, Valerie Spencer of Springfield, MO; brother-in-law, David (Denise) Spencer of Bowling Green, KY; many nieces and nephews; foster parents, Don and Lois Wright of Lapeer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Betty Stewart; sisters: Barb Shagena, Kathy Sandmann; brother, Michael Stewart; half brother, Robert Force.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Don Wright of Romeo Church of Christ officiating. Memorials may be made to Caro Church of Christ. Interment will take place at a later date. Pallbearers for Mrs. Spencer: William Spencer, Kenny Spencer, Justin Dyke, Jeffrey Stephens, Eric Hartwick and Carl Gyurko.
