MARY LORRAINE STEELY,
79, of Decker, died peacefully Sunday, November 26, 2017 in her home. She was born July 6, 1938 to Paul William and Delia (Pilette) LaChapelle in Detroit. She married Joe Calvin Steely September 21, 1963 in Mt. Clemens. He died May 1, 1990.
In her early years, Lorraine worked as a secretary for Good Housekeeping in Detroit. After moving to the Decker area in the early 1970s with her husband, she was employed by Cass City School as a teacher’s aide. Lorraine went on to work in Hills and Dales General Hospital as a ward secretary and Certified Nurse’s Assistant for 27 years. She liked reading books particularly mysteries. Lorraine enjoyed spending time with her family especially her many grandchildren. Always a faithful fan, she loved rooting for the Detroit Tigers.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Steve (Stacey) Steely of Decker; Ken Steely of Decker; Joann Steely of Decker; Dave (Laura) Steely of Cass City; Dennis (Marla) Steely of Cass City; grandchildren: Steven (Jenny) Steely, Stephanie (Aaron) Morden, Bobby Steely, Billy Steely, Samantha Currier, David Steely, Matthew Steely, Kristin (Kyle) Kolakowski, Jessica (Aaron) Bardwell, Sarah Steely, Aaron Steely, Emilee Steely, Josh Steely; great grandchildren: Lilli Steely, Paul Steely, Jake Morden, Blake Morden, Conor Currier, Kora Kolakowski; sister, Pat Wiest of W. Bloomfield; brothers: Richard LaChapelle and Ronald LaChapelle, both of Detroit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; son, Larry Steely; great grandson, Arnie Morden; sister, Betty Squillace.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Community Baptist Church of Cass City with Rev. Nathan Whipple officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Steely will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hills and Dales General Hospital Foundation or Compassus Hospice.
