He then worked for Graham Smith Drywall - Lath & Plaster of Brown City for several years, before starting his own business, Tom’s Drywall, in 1984. He had worked forty-five years in drywall before being forced to retire, due to health reasons, in 2016. His son, Jim, continues the quality work of Tom’s Drywall.

Outside of work, Tom was a lifelong member and served as a board member of the Cass City Gun Club where he excelled at competitive trap and skeet. He was a member of the NRA, Caseville Eagles, Caro Moose Lodge, and Ubly Fox Hunters and also frequented the White Creek Club for poker games. He also enjoyed bonfires, camping and spending time outdoors. When indoors, one of his favorite hobbies was playing cards. Tom was also a member of Novesta Church of Christ.
