SUSAN BERNICE HAMILTON

Susan B. Hamilton, 87, of Sand Point, previously of Kingston, died Saturday, August 15, 2026 in Courtney Manor, Bad Axe. She was born on January 26, 1939 in Cass City to George and Helen Bernice (Stewart) Peter.

Susan grew up in Kingston and graduated from Kingston High School as salutatorian of her class in 1957. She learned to play the piano, clarinet, and was a majorette. After high school, Susan spent a year in college then moved to Portsmouth, Virginia where she continued her education receiving her degree as a registered nurse. In 1968, Susan moved back to Kingston with her two children Mary and Rich to live with her parents so she could continue her education to become a CRNA. She married Robert Hamilton in 1976. Eventually they made their home permanently near Caseville.

Susan worked for several hospitals throughout her career as a CRNA including: St. Lukes, Saginaw; Deckerville Hospital, Elkhart General Hospital in Indiana, and Huron Memorial Hospital. She loved being a CRNA, the people she worked with and her patients, as testament to her working until she was seventy-nine years old.

Susan was a remarkable woman, once you knew her you never forgot her. She was the most kindhearted, generous soul to everyone that knew her. Susan loved people and animals and was always rescuing someone or some animal in need. You also never forgot her blue or purple eyeshadow and red lipstick. Even those emergency calls to the hospital in the middle of the night required all her makeup perfectly applied.

Susan “Sushi” to her granddaughters, loved entertaining family and friends at her home on Lake Huron, near Caseville. There was always plenty of good food, fun, and conversations. Her children and granddaughters loved spending summers at her home: swimming, boating, and sitting by the firepit. Susan had a strong faith in God and wore out several bibles over the past few years as she loved reading the scriptures and stories. She saw the good in everyone. Susan was a bright light in all our lives and will continue to shine in Heaven. “Shine on Susan, Shine on”!

Susan is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Mary (Guillermo) Maese; brother, James (Marian) Peter; step children: Kara Nelson, Jim Hamilton, Scott Hamilton; granddaughters: Adrianna (Casey) Keyler, Alyssa McNinch, Autumn McNinch, several nieces. She is preceded in death by her son, Richard McNinch; parents; twin sister, Mary Peter.
