RICHARD "DICK" SZARAPSKI SR.,
76, of Cass City, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in Tendercare Nursing Facility Cass City following a short illness. He was born September 14, 1938 at home in Gagetown the youngest of five children born to Kazmier and Stefania (Pucylowski) Szarapski. He married Norma Jean Guinther May 21, 1960 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church.
Dick graduated from Cass City High School in 1957. He worked for Hills & Dales General Hospital for 13 years as the Laundry Superintendent. Dick retired from Sebewaing Industries as a tool crib tender after 39 years of service. He was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church since he was five years old. Dick was a member of Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly deer, goose, duck and turkey hunting. Dick was the current president of Cass City Gun Club. Dick was very talented in creating gadgets to make his hunting experiences more efficient. He also made his own fishing tackle and, at one time, did taxidermy work for himself and friends.
Dick is survived by his wife, Norma; sons: Richard "Rick" Szarapski of Cass City, Joseph Szarapski of Cass City, Brent (Liisa) Szarapski of Traverse City, Paul (Gayle Hurd) Szarapski of Marlette; grandchildren: John, Maiya and Nathan; brothers: Edward Szarapski of Sterling Heights, Chester (Mary) Szarapski of Florida, Stanley (Arlene) Szarapski of Cass City; many nieces and nephews. He will also will be missed by his goddaughter and her family, Barb (Chris) Graff of Cass City. He is preceded in death by his twin daughters, Karen and Katherine; sister, Janina Checkeroski; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Szarapski; sisters-in-law: Berniece Szarapski and Gertrude Szarapski.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 in Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with Rev. Christian Tabares officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Szarapski will be: Tom Szarapski, Mark Checkeroski, Paul Szarapski, Brent Szarapski, Joe Marshcand, John Szarapski and Ron Guinther. Memorials may be made to Cass City Gun Club, Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892 or Family Discretionary Fund.
