MARY ELLEN ANNE VATTER
Mary E. A. Vatter, 84, of Cass City, died Friday, June 22, 2018 in Courtney Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bad Axe. She was born January 25, 1934 at home in Ubly to Howard and Mildred (Weitzel) Rathbun. She married Eugene Guy Vatter April 24, 1954 in Ubly United Methodist Church. He died January 22, 1971.
Mary graduated from Ubly High School in 1952. She worked for twenty years as Activity Director for Provincial House of Cass City and later as a home care aid for various families. She was an active member of Shabbona United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women organization. Mary founded the Shabbona United Methodist Church Camp Fund. With her efforts and the help of many volunteers, over two thousand children were able to attend the camp for free. She loved spending time and making memories with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children: Tammy (Chuck) Bliss of Cass City; Timothy Vatter of Ubly; Todd (Wendy) Vatter of Cass City; Scott (Theresa) Vatter of Decker; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; siblings: Arlene Regentine of Ubly; Ruth Knoll of Verona; Iola Strauss of Laveen, AZ; Alan (Beverly) Rathbun of Perry, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Vatter; a son, Mark Douglas Vatter; brothers: Chet Rathbun, Gerald Rathbun, Keith Rathbun.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in Shabbona United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dale Barber officiating. Interment will be in Valley Cemetery, Ubly.
