VICTORIA ELEANOR WOLAK

Victoria E. Wolak, 94, of Kingston, died peacefully Friday morning, June 20, 2025, in The Heartlands Aspire Senior Living Community, Marlette. She was born on February 5, 1931, in Deford to Wojciech “George” and Tekla “Tillie” (Chlopecka) Kloc. She married the love of her life, John J. Wolak on June 26, 1954, in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wilmot. He died January 10, 2014. Together, Vicki and John raised a family of five children.

Vicki was the youngest of eight children and grew up on the family farm in Deford. She attended Cass City High School and graduated with the Class of 1948. Following graduation, she worked for two years as a medical aide for Dr. McCray in Marlette. Then in 1952, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Rawson in Cass City. After raising her family until they reached school age, she started a thirty-year career as a teacher’s aide for Kingston Elementary School helping those students who needed extra assistance and support. She retired from that profession in 1996. Vicki also served Kingston Township as the Clerk for many years.

Vicki had a lifelong dedication to her faith. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Michael’s Altar Society where she took care of altar linens and vestments. She also worked diligently with others to make sure the church was beautifully decorated for weekend and holy day Masses, especially the Easter and Christmas Mass celebrations. Vicki was also a member of the St. Michael Church choir and coordinated the Christmas choir which was noted for singing Polish Christmas hymns before the Christmas Eve Mass.

Vicki loved being on the farm and outdoors. She was a kind soul and enjoyed taking on tasks and helping people, especially children. She could be firm, but also was very friendly and relished the opportunity to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and her community any way she could. Vicki greatly loved her family. Vicki lived a full and rewarding life in Kingston, but she also experienced life outside Kingston. Often John and Vicki headed to Warsaw Park in Hamtramck for polka dances. In 1968, they took the family on a “vacation” across the country to San Diego CA and then back again to Michigan, traveling through Yellowstone Park and Mt. Rushmore. She and John traveled to Australia in 1985. She also made several trips to Poland to visit family, last traveling to Poland in 2017 at the age of eighty six with her adult children to celebrate the ordination of family member, Fr. Tomasz Świętoń. While there she also traveled to Kraków, Zakopane, Warsaw, and Prague.

Vicki often gave of her time and always looked out for others, both young and old. Her kindness and care for others was paid back to her later in life by the attentive and unwavering care provided by others. Including her personal home health aide of many years and the dedicated staff of Northwood Meadows in Cass City and The Heartlands in Marlette. Vicki’s children repaid the love and care she had given them with the same warmth and devotion when she reached her later years.

She is survived by her children: David (Anna Jo) Wolak of Geneseo, IL; Susan Wolak of Scottsdale, AZ; Paul (Bea) Wolak of Indianapolis, IN; son-in-law, Don (Mary) Prekop of Dewitt. She was honored to be a grandmother to: Daniel, Katherine (Jimmy) Barnes, Elizabeth (Corey) Winowiecki, Kevin (Kathy) Wolak, Kaitlyn (Rob) Grier, Christopher, Michael (Ashley) Prekop, Thomas (Megan) Prekop. She was blessed with and immensely enjoyed her seven great grandchildren: Patrick Winowiecki, Calvin Winowiecki, Allis Winowiecki and David Winowiecki of North Aurora, IL; Victoria (Rory) Barnes, Alexandria (Aria) Barnes, and Maxwell Barnes of Corona, CA. Great Grandmother “GiGi” will be greatly missed. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Virginia Kloc of Buffalo, NY and many nieces and nephews. Vicki was preceded in death by her dear husband of nearly sixty years, John Wolak (2104); her son, Patrick George Wolak (1976); daughter, Evelyn Joyce Prekop (2016); sister, Mary Kloc (1916); brothers: John Kloc (1983), Walter Kloc (2020), Stanley (Nursie) Kloc (2006), Eugene (Bernice) Kloc (1963), Albert Kloc (1925) at birth, Frank Kloc (2008).
