ETHEL M. WHITTAKER
Ethel M. Whittaker, 91, of Cass City, died following a long illness Thursday, January 10, 2019 in Satchell’s Christian Retirement Home, Caro. She was born February 6, 1927 in Flint, MI the sixth of eight children born to Albert E. and Mary Elizabeth (Coombe) Polmounter. She married Harold Dennis Whittaker June 9, 1951 in Clio. He died May 9, 2005.
Ethel graduated from Flint Northern High School and went on to Owosso Bible College for two years of study. Ethel worked as office manager for Dr. Kenneth Ivan MacRae for several years. She was an active member of the Cass City Missionary Church. She served as deaconess, treasurer and was church secretary for many years. Ethel also taught Sunday School and was a Junior Church teacher. Before Cass City Missionary Church, Ethel attended Mizpah Missionary Church, Riverside and New Greenleaf Missionary Churches. Ethel served with the Woman’s Missionary Society as the District Leader for the Brown City District. In years past, she was a member of the Ladies Trio a woman’s singing group that traveled the area singing at small churches and revivals. Ethel loved music. She taught piano and organ out of her home for over 50 years. Ethel enjoyed needlework especially cross stitch and crocheting making hundreds of doilies and many afghans for family and friends.
Ethel is survived by her children: Sherry (Daniel) Broeker of Peoria, AZ, Larry (Michelle) Whittaker of Cass City; grandchildren: Tara (Ryan) Glenn, Leah (Kyle) Fraser, Kristy King, Mardi (Daniel) Davenport, Robin Burleigh, Ryan (Andrea) King, Troy (Megan Kimzey) King, Justin (Austa) Broeker, Tracy (Levi) Peck; great grandchildren: Maximus, Gavin, Grace, Gwendolyn, Lauren, Lily, James, Brianna, TaNeicea, Bruce, Simmone, Leo, and Trixy; many nieces and nephews. Ethel will also be missed by Harold’s family: Gerald (Ruth) Whittaker of Cass City, Wayne (Evelyn) Whittaker of Cass City. She is preceded in death by her siblings: Ernest Polmounter, Stanley Polmounter, Olive Burpee-Anslow, Violet Brown, Joseph Polmounter, Albert Polmounter and an infant baby brother Elmer.
Funeral service held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2019 in Cass City Missionary Church with Pastor Phil Burkett officiating. Interment will be in Moshier Cemetery, Hemans. Pallbearers for Ms. Whittaker: Kyle Fraser, Ryan Glenn, Ryan King, Gavin King, Nathan Fritz and Terry Tuckey. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
