Allen Alfred Witherspoon

ALLEN ALFRED WITHERSPOON,
90, of Cass City, died Friday, April 30, 2021 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born September 12, 1930 in Hume Township to Alford and Minna (Iseler) Witherspoon. He married Florence Ann Butler on March 22, 1958 in the EUB Church in Cass City. She died September 28, 2014.

Al graduated from Kinde High School in 1948, enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged in 1954 holding the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Al continued his education and graduated from Michigan State College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was employed by the Coca-Cola Company as a salesman. Al also sold insurance while working as an insurance agent for New England Life. The majority of his years of employment were spent as a rural postal carrier for the United States Postal Service. Al was very active with the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He served as District Governor and was also a Past President, of the Cass City Lions Club, during his fifty-six years as a member. Al was a great bowler and sponsored many teams.

He was a member of the Sanilac Hunt Club. Al enjoyed deer hunting at his hunting lodge in Curran and fishing in Peach Lake, especially with his brothers-in-law. He was happy and willing to teach his grandchildren how to fish. Together, Al and Florence traveled extensively across the United States. Panama City Beach in Florida was one of their favorite places to visit.

Allen is survived by his children: Kim (Lou) Rabedeau of Milford, Kari (Steve) Brewer of Oscoda, Richard (Lynette) Witherspoon of Cass City; grandchildren: Jessica (Joel) Foreman, Jonathon (Jessica) Rabedeau, Leishia (Jeremy) Spencer, Alan Brewer, Joshua Brewer, Kera-ann Brewer, Aubrei Witherspoon, Kaitlin Witherspoon, Brandon Witherspoon; six great-granddaughters: Evelina, Alazay, Olivia, Hannah, Sarah, Felicity; his twin sister, Alice Fischer of Caseville; sister-in-law, Rosie Witherspoon of Kinde; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence; infant son, Kenneth Alan Witherspoon; sister, Eurotta (Jim) Hind; brothers: Willis Witherspoon, John (Sharon) Witherspoon.

Private funeral service held in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Cass City with Rev. Steven Bagnall officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Cass City Lions Club. Family and friends may share memories, prayers, and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
