MARY MARJORIE “MARGE” ZAWILINSKI
Mary M. Zawilinski, 94, of Cass City, died peacefully Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the comfort of her home. She was born June 25, 1924 in Frieburg to Louis and Mary (Morell) Peters. She married John Zawilinski June 5, 1943 in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Freiburg. He died January 11, 2009.
As a child, Marge attended a two-room schoolhouse in Frieburg. She went to work as a housekeeper for many priests in the Detroit area and later as a nanny for newborn babies. During World War II, Marge worked for Briggs Manufacturing Plant in Detroit where she was a “Rosie the Riveter” and helped assemble airplanes. After moving to the Cass City area and raising her family she was employed by General Cable as a quality control inspector. She and John enjoyed polka dancing and taking rides in the car, especially to get ice cream. Marge enjoyed playing Euchre and Pinochle with family and friends. She was fond of tending to her flowers and vegetable garden.
Marge is survived by her children: Joann Smithson of Cass City; Al (Melojean) Zawilinski of Bay City; John (Angie Schatzer) Zawilinski of Bay City; Linda (Dennis) Powell of Cass City; Rick Zawilinski of Berwick, LA; grandchildren: Jim (Deb Poiser) Smithson, Barry Patterson, Jeff (Gretchen Gersonde) Smithson, Justin (Kim) Salas, Brent (Tiffany) Salas, Lyle Schatzer, Lance Schatzer, Rush (Chris) Dittmore, Knop Carrillo, Karla Carrillo; great grandchildren: Rob, Megan, Kelsey, Ava, Gloriel, Kaleb, Evan, Eli, Starlet, Dominic; sister-in-law, Aggie Zawilinski of Cass City; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Zawilinski; son, Jerry Michael Zawilinski; granddaughter, Julie Patterson; brothers: Edwin Peters, Clarence Peters, Louis Peters, Mark Peters, Raymond (Irene) Peters; sisters: Marie (Bill) Roberts, Viola (Mike) Flannery, Vernetta (Herb) Flannery, Ellen (John) McCormick; son-in-law, Jim Smithson.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 in Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Adam Maher officiating. Interment in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Zawilinski are her grandsons: Jim Smithson, Jeff Smithson, Justin Salas, Brent Salas, Lyle Schatzer, Lance Schatzer, Knop Carrillo, Barry Patterson. Memorials may be made to Revive Ministries of Cass City or St. Pancratius Catholic Church. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
